Who we are
The John Lewis Award of Freedom honors individuals whose lives and legacies echo the courage, conviction, and compassion of the late activist and Congressman John Lewis. Rooted in his belief in "good trouble," this award celebrates those who advance justice, civil rights, and the dignity of all people through bold action and moral clarity. It serves as a reminder that freedom is not a finished story, but an ongoing commitment.
The inaugural John Lewis Award of Freedom ceremony will take place in Spring 2026 in New York City, bringing together artists, activists, and changemakers to celebrate lives lived in service of freedom and progress.
In partnership with the John Lewis Estate.
